Book Review #170 The Mother Of All Parties: Padmini Sankar

Blurb:

Pam has had enough of Honey Sarin, whose cutting barbs and snide comments have gone
a little too far. This time, Pam is not going to take it lying down. For her twentieth anniversary, she resolves to throw the biggest, most glamorous party Dubai has ever seen- one that will outdo Honey's, whose own twentieth anniversary is a week before Pam's. But the going isn't easy, and Pam finds herself facing countless obstacles: an ex-flame who returns and sets her heart beating again, an indifferent husband who patronises and undermines her, a shockingly rude daughter who won't let Pam into her life, and last but not the least, an absconding worker whom she shelters. As Pam struggles to juggle all the different aspects of her life, will she be able to throw the mother of all parties?

My Take:

A refreshing story spun around the glamorous city of Dubai and the high elite society. A sneak peak in the life of rich and famous, their insecurities, their thoughts and experiences and how the society views them.

Pam, wife of millionaire is a part of the elite clubs where people are judged all the time. Each move is scrutinized and commented upon. A society where only brands and status matters. This book talks about Pam’s journey and a party that she has to throw on her 20th Anniversary which for her is a personal challenge as she has to win by throwing a best party that would be remembered and talked for times to come.

I loved the way the story touches all the aspects of life and relationships. Pam has a teenage daughter who rebels all the time, thanks to her super busy social life and a business to run. Pam in spite of trying her best to fit in or make time ,somewhere all this takes a toll on her relationship with her children. Her Ex flame working with her husband who is now only committed to business complicate things for her. She craves for attention from her husband and time, a phase all marriages go through. The comeback of her ex whom she’s attracted to poses a challenge to her.

How does she deal with all this? What happens when she is facing a challenging situation where in helping an innocent can put brakes to her husband’s hard-work and reputation? Will Pam be able to really throw a party to remember? Read the book to find out.

The story commands attention from the word go. The title is interesting, but trust me there is much more to the story than what the title suggests. A simple way of narrating a story that keeps you hooked till the end. The mother daughter relationship and the husband wife complexities are highlighted well. A book with some real beautiful moments touches the hearts of the readers.

Rating:
I would rate this 4.7/5
