Book Review # 153 The L Word Decoding Love : Chitrangada Mukherjee
Blurb:
Some of us are capable of feeling love’s intensity. And some of us, aren’t. Worldly worries may distract temporarily, but it can never drown the ceaseless whispering of our souls."
Three strangers meet in a cafe for the first time. To share their stories of heartbreak.
Aranya is a rich, feisty, attractive and successful young woman who is about to get married but her fiancée is in two minds.
Zacko is an obese, grumpy, gifted coder who is struggling hard to get over his unrequited college love.
Javed is a happy-go-lucky model and actor besotted with someone – who has no clue about his existence.
Drawn by the need to confide about their pain, they continue to meet.
Each time trusting the other with a little more.
Until bit by bit, smokescreens are lifted, revealing stunning secrets and baring the unparalleled intensity of love.
The L-Word is a gripping tale of three very different people who try to decode love. But, then who says love is easy to crack? Or, survive
My Take:
Love is a four letter word, but the emotions that the word evokes is something that words can decipher. Some love stories are unusual and different. They take time to grow on us. This is one such story.
Starts unusually with 3 strangers who start sharing their stories, but not honestly. They have their dark sides, they are insecure and scared of showing their weakness to people.
Ananya is beautiful, rich and in love and confused. Inspite of being unsure she continues meeting Zacko and Javed and trusting them a little more.
Javed is a wannabe actor who masks his emotions and pain and puts a good facade. Not ready to come out his closet and share his side he ends up meeting them and becoming a part of trio. He shares only his career, stories and struggles.
Zacko is underconfident who is unable to fill the big imprints his elder brother has created thus a failure in his parents eyes. He is obese which drives him to the wall further. Labelling himself as a failure he himself loses way and the zeal to do well even if he's a talented coder.
What happens when these 3 meet? Will they be able to help each other overcome their weaknesses, confusions and insecurities? Will the strangers become more than strangers to friends? Read the book to find out.
The book starts unusually and the characters take time to get acquainted. A unusual story of love, complexities of relations and friendship. I like the way the author handled the concept. A very matured story that grows as it progresses.
I would rate this 4.2/5
