Book Review # 167 Adulting : Neharika Gupta

 Blurb:

Social media manager and popular blogger Aisha is flirty and flamboyant ... even as she battles personal demons that tell her she must stop eating if she wants to stay pretty.

Ruhi couldn't be more different from her friend Aisha. Working at Litracy Publishing, she feels grossly underappreciated by the editor-in-chief, who happens to be her mother. What keeps her going are her own ambitions - and her handsome author Tejas.

Bestselling novelist Tejas has a bad case of writer's block. He leans on Ruhi for emotional support before getting enamoured by Aisha as he struggles to live up to everyone's expectations, including his own.

Bold and unapologetic, this is a story of love and self-discovery, heartache and book launches.

My Take:

Alisha is a social media manager, who is proud of how she looks and what she is capable of. She has a successful blog, and a dream job of working with a successful publication house. She has things going her way and a lot to look forward to.

Tejas is a successful author, basking in the acclodes of his first book and on the way to write another one soon. Or so he thinks. He has his own insecurities and fears which he tends to escape by being in a relationship.

Ruhi is an editor in chief who has a thing for Tejas and she believes there is more to it. Working with her mother who keeps throwing challenges and raising her bar all the time she has a lot to cope up with. Fuelled by her ambitions and the zest to prove herself she keeps working hard and her relationship with Tejas is something that keeps her going.

What happens when these people and their equations with each other reach a point of no return? What happens when they fail each other and backstab? How will they live with themselves and their so called friendships? Will they get a chance to redeem themselves or its too late? Read to find out.

A sassy read, this one is quite different from what the blurb says . There is much more to the characters and their stories than the book, blogs and being an editor. The story deals with the obsession of being thin at the cost of their mental and physical health and peace is handled effectively. The necessity to look good and thin is a the latest fad for which people are killing themselves almost. I liked the way the author highlighted this issue and handled it well.

Writer's block is another issues which even bloggers face and the need to post something all the time and be in limelight and increase the traffic and followers is something that all social media influncers and authors keep facing all the time. I loved the way even that angle was explored and developed.

Relationships and the baggage that comes with that, the insecurity and the way people dump each other and move on reflects the society we live in. Also the mindset these days to pull down when you have the power and misuse of social media and the negativity it brings along is also discussed well.

Narration is good, the story flows smoothly. The nittigritties of a publication house and their way of functioning is written well.

I would rate this 4.4/5
