Book Review # 103 Happily Married Happily Divorced : Swati Kumari
Varushka is a young and ambitious girl, hoping to make her career before ‘settling down’ and making babies. But like always, her parents have a different plan. After tasting emotional blackmail, requests and even bribes, she is forced to make the choice between her dreams and her parents’ wish.
Her confusion vanishes when she meets Mitash. He is an eligible bachelor, living his life the way he wants, and his practical approach towards life wins her over. They are soon married and settled in Amsterdam, enjoying each other’s company and redefining love in their own special way.
But then, what leads them to a divorce, that too a happy one? Is life about making deals with one’s self, to create the destiny one wants?
Happily Married Happily Divorced will cajole you into leading a happier life and take you on a roller coaster ride of love, surprises and unknown adventures.
My Take:
The title piqued my interest and I went on to read this book. Finished this in a couple of hours. A interesting take on life and choice. Indian authors are coming of age. A usual story weaved in a unusual way with a refreshing point of view.
Cleverly incorporating the current generation coming out their closet and accepting their sexual orientation and the society reaction with the D word . Even today a divorce is looked down and even now parents control their kids life by pressurizing them with life altering decisions. I liked the way the author has added the sensitive topics and weaved a story with them.
Varushka is a girl full of dreams and bucket list. Her ambition is to work hard and see the world. However her dreams come to a halt when her parents pressurize her to meet potential boys for marriage. She succumbs and meet boys, the first one has his own domination, whom she rejects, until she meets Mitash she is clear on her stand of not getting married yet.
Mitash is what every girl dreams of. Smart, sensitive a lovable. He understands Varushka's ambitions and need for independence, and at the same time he is smitten by her. He convinces her to marry him and have a career too. But is he really that good? What secret is he hiding? What will Varushka do when she tumbles on the life altering secret? How does she cope? Read the book to find out.
A must read I feel for parents too as they would also know about their kids point of view and how their pushing them to relationships can affect their lives. I loved the way the relationships are explored. Especially the ones between Varushka and her parents. I loved the way parents stand by her in crisis. A must read.
I would rate this 4.3/5 for a unusual narration. Finally other than Mills and Boons we have some regular love strories to read.
