Book Review #72: In Love With Simran: Kulpreet Yadhav

The book was sent by the author in exchange of unbiased and honest review.

Blurb:

Sanjana’s best friend at college is murdered. She was in love with a business tycoon named Nik Sethi, and Sanjana is certain that he killed her. In an effort to find proof, she decides to get close to him.

Good looking and rich, Nik falls in love with Sanjana instantly, but a month later, when he accidentally discovers her real agenda, he throws her out of his life. Determined to nail him, Sanjana’s desperation exceeds all limits when she realizes that she too, like her friend, has fallen in love with a killer.

After she escapes an attack one night, Sanjana quits college and goes into hiding. Now her only ambition is to punish the killer and her only weapon is her body. In a last, desperate attempt, she uses herself as bait and pursues her best plan. There are only two options: she becomes a victim or she becomes a victor.

Through the story of Sanjana and Nik, In Love With Simran explores the boundaries of the basic instincts of the young: love, sex, trust and survival.

My Take:

The title and the cover page doesn't give you a faintest idea of the roller coaster ride you are supposed to go on. The book is fast paced with crisp writing. The plot was good but somewhere the transformations affected the story line.

Sanjana started off as a head strong girl , who was practical and emotional to the extent of trying to find out who the murderer of her best friend is and take revenge. I had already started respecting her emotions and feelings of losing her bestie. However, with her falling in love with the Nik, the one of the suspects was not very convincing.

Nik was written well, he had layers to his personality, an aura and mystery surrounding him. He had the blow hot blow cold kind of behavior. Uncertain and unpredictable. Even Simran's character I felt could have developed better.

All the characters are written well, but the change of track and change of Sanjana's heart applied brakes on the thriller part of the story. The death of Ruby and Pathan remained mysterious as their stories. Why they were killed and what was their role in the life of the killer are not explored.

The story could have been written a better as it had all the ingredients of a potboiler thriller. But I liked the way the author kept it a mystery till the end. The climax was disturbing and unreasonable as no specific reasons are provided for his behavior and the death of Ruby and Pathan.

Rating:

I would rate this 3.5/5 as the way it is written, had the love angle been not inserted it would have been more interesting. The author sure has the potential to write such stories.
