Book Review#12 :Anudini: Dilip Prabhavalkar

The other day I was just randomly going through my book collection, I laid my hand on a book not many know of because it’s a Marathi book written by Dilip Prabhavalkar. The name of the book is Anudini, which means diary.

The book speaks about the habit of diary writing of members of a family. There’s the grandfather,(Aaba) son Shekar Tipre, his wife Shyamla Tipre and their kids Shrilesh Tipre and Shalaka Tipre. These days writing a diary is big deal as we all are always pressed for time. Here the author has made an attempt to see daily situations from 5 people’s point of view.

The book had been made into a TV serial by the name Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre and was a big hit with the author playing the role of the patriarch. Day to day issues, political and social issues are discussed here in a layman’s language, which we all connect to at some point of time. The book is a feel good one. Whenever you feel bored/ low just start reading and immediately you get to be a part of the wonderful family. It also very wonderfully shows how three generations in spite of their different tastes and opinions stick to each other with love and respect.

I would recommend this to anyone who knows to read the language to pick and read this breezy read. I feel in today’s world putting a smile on anyone’s face is the most difficult thing to do. One of the best books converted wonderfully into a sitcom, where the charm and simplicity is still not lost. ๐Ÿ˜†

Dilip Sir, one of the most versatile and tongue in cheek author as well as actor par excellence. Take a bow.

I think the serial was not made with the name Anudini, but the name was Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre. I loved that serial! I am going to see if I can get my hands on this book soon :) Thanks for reminding me of this....and oh, if you liked this, then go read the masterpieces by Pu La Deshpande too!
